The ‘Golden Age’ project will offer weekly community activities and look to cover a broad range of subjects and interests, these will include dancing, cooking, coffee mornings, gardening and walking groups. The project aims to combat isolation for older people across the community and surrounding areas and to improve independence by allowing them to become more active, improving health, well-being, and quality of life.

Our Health Inequalities project has a generational / community approach to delivery.

Physical activity, nutrition and educational elements will focus primarily, but not exclusively, on young children and families.

The key target will be to attract those families who are in receipt of free school meals.

HOW WILL I BENEFIT?

We aim to use the community element to encourage older adults and disability groups to utilise our community garden and activity group classes to help address social isolation and sedentary behaviour.

Where we offer other educational elements, this will also target young people aged 16-25 with special needs, autism and learning difficulties to help improve life skills, self-confidence and build social awareness.

OUTCOMES

We aim to target

• FAMILIES – by participating in our family fit element where they will also learn nutritional awareness a to improve their physical health. This will be over a 16 week period.
• OLDER ADULTS – to improve physical and mental health working alongside our community garden and group class activities, which will also address social isolation and improve community spirit.
• SEN YOUNG PEOPLE – those with special needs, autism and disabilities will improve confidence and physical health through our group activities.
• LONG TERM ILNESS – targeting those living with long term illnesses such as Parkinsons or cancer to improve mental and physical wellbeing through 1:1 and small group opportunities.
